Updating a playstation 3 system
Sony has said they are working to fix the error, “We hope to resolve this problem within the next 24 hours.” Update: Several sites are reporting that the error seems to have fixed itself and games are working again. Sony provides Play Station 3 owners with regular system updates which contain security patches, features, settings and other things to keep the PS3 up to date.If anyone is wondering I have the 1st gen Slim 120GB model.Because I'm a fucking mad-man I braved the waters and updated and can confirm I successfully did so. Just wanted to throw out a not so ominous result from updating.Anyone else got a firmware update tonight and have it mess up your PS3?I've searched and found no info on there being an update and I've been playing online for the past week (Last of Us). All I could find was someone suggesting to take out the HDD and replace it with another one (don't have an extra HDD laying around). Also, if I try to turn it off it just makes a double beep noise and won't shut off. Turn it back on and its just back at the wave with nothing else on the screen.Wait for the install to complete, and then take the disc out of the system.
Will the PSN remain inaccessible, forcing Sony to mail out discs with system updates?Well, I've always been a "lets get this over with" kind of guy regarding bad news. Attempting to rebuild the file system via recovery died at 47% and prompted me to reformat the whole drive.I did get a bit worried though because Game FAQs is popping up with more and more instances of this. People on GAF and the Play Station forums all report similar phenomena.Turn on your PS3 and insert the disc into the disc tray.Navigate to the "Settings" menu and then press "X" to select "System Update" from the list.
